Stand Tall, Blue Heron

Writer: Monica WaltonMonica Walton

I see you standing tall

Confident by the water's edge

Calm and patient as other species scurry nearby

It matters not to you if I sit and watch

You are happy to share some space for every living thing to gather on this breezy, peaceful evening. I am in awe of the way you sit so still. I wonder if you think of me or even notice I am here.

You and I are both taken in by the glorious sunrise. My mind wants me to think of the things I did not get to yesterday. My body wants me to get moving on the agenda for today.

Thank you, Blue Heron, for standing tall and showing me how to do the same. My heartbeat slows, my muscles relax, and my thoughts reflect on the beauty of God's creation. We are each uniquely made by the Master Craftsman of life, the Master Painter of the skies. Why would we not stand tall?

I am not very tall, and neither are you compared to so many people and things in the world. So, I must remind myself that the measure of beauty is not found in our height, weight, or the details we check in the mirror. Beauty is measured in our heartbeats, orchestrated by God.

Our hearts are designed to love God and all that He created. That includes those we easily love, those who we find difficult to love, those who challenge us, and those who go by unnoticed. All were created by God. He deemed us all worthy of life and love.

So, let us stand tall, like the Blue Heron, no matter our size. And, be reflective and respectful, sharing the beautiful space wherever we are standing in every moment. Share in God's creation and know His Peace.

"Fill us with your love, O Lord, and we will sing for joy! that we may gain wisdom of heart. Fill us at daybreak with your kindness, that we may shout for joy and gladness all our days. Fill us with your love, O Lord, and we will sing for joy! may the favor of the Lord our God be ours."

What a wonderful read as I sit quietly enjoying the piece and quiet of the morning as it slowly comes alive.
